This Week's Waste of Time
A few free games to fill the waning work day

Enough already! We've finally arrived at the end of the massive endeavor that was sifting through the Independent Games Festival entries looking for free and browser friendly games to play. Here are the last three I found:
Aside from being fun and addictive this game reminded me a lot of a previous Waste of Time called Super Puzzle Platformer, except where that game was a bit more Tetris-y, Blocks Cometh has a bit more Canabalt in it. It's the videogame equivalent of a mashup: part platformer, part puzzle game, and part shooter. Trying to think on all of those levels while unforgiving objects fall from the sky threatening to crush you is no easy feat. I topped out at 154 meters and felt pretty good about it.
This one is a strategy game that puts you in charge of an invading horde of monsters with the aim of sacking enough towns to increase your level of infamy. Improve the creatures and weapons at your disposal as you gain notoriety. There's a bit of a grind that comes with repeating certain areas just to gain points to exchange for improved stats, but on the whole, the game's attributes are pretty solid. However, the good guy/bad guy paradigm shift isn't nearly as clever as the developers think it is.
I wrote about this little nugget of brilliance before. Check it.
So, that's it. I hope you enjoyed this somewhat extended look at the IGF. Feel free to relive all the games in parts 1, 2, 3, and 4 of my roundup. Ah, memories. Next week, we return to our normal schedule.
