The ShowGO! comedy and film showcase takes over the Paramount
By Kimberley Jones, 2:25PM, Thu. Oct. 6, 2011
While the Internet's super-accessibility is tops in terms of getting eyeballs on underseen artistic endeavors like short films, the accommodations ain't ideal (headphones + YouTube + your work cubicle). We imagine, then, it'll be a special thrill for filmmakers attending Saturday's the ShowGO! to see their movies unspool at the historic Paramount.
The ShowGO!, a series that sprung out of the Texas Film Scene, power-packs the lineup with a cocktail schmooze (music by DJ Blake Brandon), live sets by comedians Chris Cubas and Andy Ritchie, five shorts, and Q&A with the filmmakers. On the film bill: "Sleep Study" (D: John Merriman and Kerri Lendo); "Petting Sharks" (D: Craig Elrod); "Red Wednesday" (D: Nazanin Shirazi); "Perils in Nude Modeling" (D: Scott Rice); and "Mnemosyne Rising" (D: Miguel Alvarez).
Doors open 6:30pm, Saturday, Oct. 8, with the show starting at 7pm. There will also be a raffle to benefit fire relief, with prizes including an Austin Film Festival Producer’s Badge, makeup packages, a casting workshop with Karen Hallford, and Paramount film posters.
