The AggreGAYtor: June 7

What happened today in gay? Here’s your QILTBAG recap of queer news.

Welcome, Phelps folks!
Welcome, Phelps folks!

Same-sex families prove good-as-thine, the Westboro clan finds common ground with queer Texans, and gay kids and trans soldiers rock our world, as your AggreGAYtor disturbs the stock.

The Good

  • Pride Month gets an honorable, if awkward, debut at Dallas City Hall.

  • A transgender service member meets the President, hoping someday soon trans* soldiers can serve openly in the U.S. military.

  • Tired of the same old clobber verse debates with [fellow] Christians? Try Reading Queerly to put the conversation back on track.

  • The Republican Party may have to review its stance on gay marriage, lest it find itself hoisted on its own petard over its formerly favorite wedge issue.

  • A gay 11-year-old got a homophobic Tennessee politician’s “Reformer of the Year” title revoked.

The Bad

The Fugly

  • The Westboro Bunch will be in Austin June 12 at 8 AM decrying the hypocrisy of Governor Rick Perry, somewhere at the “Texas State Capital.” We’re guessing they mean the Capitol. Maybe we should join them. What, you need a link?

  • A Canadian “women’s organization” says that trans* folk are pedophiles.  Or something. Can someone please debunk this mess?
