Austin ISD Superintendent Pat Forgione has issued a short statement about this morning's selection of Meria Carstarphen as the finalist to replace him when he retires June 30.
I welcome Meria Carstarphen to Austin. She will find a community that cares deeply about the education and well being of its children. This is a community that supports its public schools and expects all its children to be well prepared for college and successful careers. Austin is blessed with smart and dedicated educators. We have made great strides in my ten years. But there are many miles still to go. There is not a better place to prove that public education can serve all our children well. Before the announcement, Forgione sat down for a lengthy interview with the Chronicle about his career: you can read it here.
