AISD Helps With the Adding

Schools report smooth polling experience,

Elections mean extra traffic and extra hassles for Austin ISD, but so far it all seems to be going smoothly.

According to AISD spokesman Andy Welch, polling at the 68 locations provided by the district has gone smoothly (there were brief disturbances near two, Mills and St. Elmo elementaries, but nothing on the actual campuses. Mills was placed briefly on lockdown, but there was no disturbance caused to voting). Welch praised Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir for putting all the moving pieces together. "Dana, she's done this before and knows how to do it."

So what about AISD Prop. 1, the tax increase to pay for teacher raises? "Texas Tech won by one, and they jumped to no. 2, so 50+1 is enough. I think it's going to pass," said Welch.
