Whether you never scored that pricey wristband or you simply haven't the patience for the ACL crowds, there's no good excuse not to get the rock-n-roll fix you crave at the third annual Ditch the Fest Fest this Friday and Saturday night (10/12-10/13) at the 29th St. Ballroom and Spider House Cafe.
The two-day bash, thrown by the fine folks at Lucy the Poodle and Hot Burrito, features four stages stacked with local and out-of-town acts alike. $5 gets you into the event each evening, with doors at 5 pm and live music from 6:30 to close. Friday features raucous melodic showmen Bobby Jealousy and their powerhouse front vocalist Sabrina Ellis, who'll get your blood pumping; Residual Kid, the coolest middle school rockers around (with the chops to prove it); and sweet metal heads Megafauna, whose frontwoman Dani Neff will shred her heart out and leave it lying on the stage just for you. Saturday offers listeners a noisy dreamscape from well-known Austin foursome The Calm Blue Sea. If you dig those sixties psych tones, catch pop rock-n-rollers Burgess Meredith opening the ballroom stage and JC & Co., who are closing down the evening with their own brand of brooding psych pop. Whatever your musical leanings, you'll find something that suits your taste with such a deliciously packed bill.
