Pop quiz: What's the best three-birds/one-stone way to celebrate Bilbo Baggins' birthday, support a good cause, and show off your no doubt sizable nerd skills?
That would be BookPeople's upcoming Tolkien Trivia Night, also conveniently timed to the 75th anniversary of the publication of J. R. R. Tolkien's immortal The Hobbit. The pub-style quiz contest – which takes place Sept. 21 and benefits Save Our Springs – will welcome up to 12 teams of 4 members each ($50 registration fee per team). Austin's Pizza and Saint Arnold Brewing Company will be on hand to keep Hobbitheads fed and well-watered.
Going out on a limb here, but there might be a few Tolkien fans in this town, so you should probably move fast. You can register – in English (save your Elvish prowess for the big night, eh?) – at www.bookpeople.com.
A note to readers: Bold and uncensored, The Austin Chronicle has been Austin’s independent news source for over 40 years, expressing the community’s political and environmental concerns and supporting its active cultural scene. Now more than ever, we need your support to continue supplying Austin with independent, free press. If real news is important to you, please consider making a donation of $5, $10 or whatever you can afford, to help keep our journalism on stands.
