The holidays are typically a time for making some pretty dumb decisions, so January marks an excellent month to devote yourself to smart thinking. Enter University of Texas psychologist Art Markman.

Markman has devised a three-prong attack in his new book Smart Thinking: Three Essential Keys to Solve Problems, Innovate, and Get Things Done (Perigree, $25).
