The mascot of Duke University, the Blue Devil, is an homage to a group of World War I French soldiers, the Chasseurs Alpins, nicknamed "Les Diables Bleus."

The pan became a hit after Ella Rita Helfrich of Houston won second place in the 1966 Pillsbury Bake-Off for her Tunnel of Fudge Cake, made in a Bundt pan.
