This Week's Waste of Time

Fracuum goes deep, but, unlike Ice Cube, it won't put your ass to sleep.

This week, waste your time with two of my favorite browser game developers. Tyler Glaiel and Nitrome supply your fix of free gaming. Here's your chance to while the the work-day away, and tell yourself that you're supporting a largely ignored portion of the arts spectrum. That's what I tell myself every day.

Glaiel has spent the last few years completing a puzzle game called Closure that was recently released on the PlayStation Store. I highly recommend picking it up, but if you want to play the original browser version you can just click here. Clearly Glaiel was looking for something with a shorter production cycle than the years-long path to shipping Closure to PS3s. Fracuum was made in 48 hours for Ludum Dare (see more on that here). The game is called Fracuum and features levels within levels like Russian nesting dolls. Collect diamonds and get to the center, but you might want to gave a game plan as you go deeper.

Nitrome makes polished games that generally focus on a single game mechanic. Take for example Fault Line or Test Subject Green, or they're most recent game, Gunbrick. You are the titular gunbrick, of course. Which means you can roll around and use your gun to shoot things or propel yourself in a specific direction. Things get a little rough when spaces get narrow and exact rolling or thoughtful gun placement is required.
