One of the things that Austin’s been missing, in addition to all the other things it’s been missing, is food from L’Oca d’Oro.
You know L’Oca d’Oro: The Golden Goose, right? That superlative Italian restaurant in the Mueller development, run by Adam Orman and chef Fiore Tedesco? The friendly epicenter of some of the finest cuisine this city’s ever offered?
But we haven’t been missing them because L’Oca d’Oro has closed or anything like that. No, the unwelcome fate that’s already removed the beloved Blue Dahlia and Mother’s Cafe and Dart Bowl, et. al, from our beleaguered midst has yet to befall L’Oca d’Oro.
Rather, they’ve been busy elsewhere.
Unable to serve the dining public in a reasonably safe manner – regardless that certain members of the public have vowed “I’d go through Hell itself for just one taste of their Rigatoni al Pomodoro” – the honchos and crew of L’Oca d’Oro quickly shifted their operation to provide institutional culinary support to the local school system. Yes, they’ve been cooking for AISD for the past five months.
But, now? Having honed new operational skills and sussed out the particulars necessary for continued survival in these confounding times? “We’re cooking for the public again,” Orman informed us in a recent email. “Still pivoting and conquering the pandemic!”
[Note: Orman actually used that exclamation point. We also sense an implied “RAR!” – although maybe that’s just us? – and in any case we’re like, more power to them.]
Listen: “L’Oca d’Oro remains closed to dine-in service, but we are launching an exciting new way to experience Chef Fiore’s hand-made pastas, charcuterie, and our dynamic wine collection from the comfort of your home. We’re now offering weekly or monthly memberships, bringing a high-quality restaurant dining experience to you. Subscribers can choose the frequency of their plan and size (for two or four), all with the option of adding on our curated, small-production wines. Weekly meals include three dishes designed to be eaten together as a thoughtful and fulfilling meal. Monthly subscribers will receive that week’s unique meal as well as a decadent charcuterie spread, which is bound to impress socially distanced patio guests, and an exclusive house-made pantry item to add variety and interest to your cooking.”
