Big Freedia, Boyfriend, House of Kenzo

“Queen of Bounce,” Big Freedia totes the sounds of New Orleans’ twerk essentials via breakneck dance routines powered by machine-gun beats in tracks such as “Excuse” and “Duffy.” San Antonio support, vogue crew House of Kenzo dances to erratic, post-apocalyptic electronics on Bonfires of Urbanity (2017), while NOLA’s Boyfriend offers rap cabaret theatrics in a 3-D bra worthy of Madonna.

Free Week: Jai Malano, Tomar & the FCs, Honey Made

Two Austin R&B powerhouses join forces to spread soul as sweet as nectar. Led by smooth-crooning frontman Tomar Williams, who produced mid-Aughts Houston rap anthems “Still Tippin’” and “Sittin’ Sidewayz” alongside brother Salih, the FCs debut hit like a Heart Attack with classic tropes poached from Motown and Stax. Support comes courtesy of the band formerly known as Mama K & the Shades, now rebranded as Honey Made, the title of their 2016 debut. The jazz and funk cooked up by the 10-piece remains tasty.
