#bossbabesatx has been hosting local events for the last three years, with its mission being to support women (women-identifying and nonbinary) artists and women-owned businesses.
Babes Fest is their big ol’ community-minded event featuring three days of music, art, and film, happening at different venues all over town. This year’s festival takes place Aug. 30-Sept. 2, and they’ve just announced the full lineup of artists and films.
The Music Showcase (Mohawk, Sept. 1) will feature local R&B babe Alesia Lani and synth pop band Night Glitter as well as Afrofuturist hip-hop/soul duo Oshun and Brooklyn-based rapper Latasha. The Film Showcase (Austin School of Film, Aug. 31) will screen B.B. Arya’s 2017 film We Are as well as a selection of shorts from a range of filmmakers including Evelyn From the Internets and Brittany Reeber. Attendees are also invited for new events such as the craftHER pop-up market, a brunch, a read-in, and a pop-up library.
Tickets are available for individual events for $10-25, or you can purchase a three-day pass for $50. Visit babesfest.com/tickets to purchase in advance. For more info, see babesfest.com.
