Seems like the R in RTX stands for “rescheduled.” Austin-based online content leviathan Rooster Teeth has announced that it’s moving its annual convention, RTX, from July to Labor Day weekend (Sept. 5-7).
The three-day event is one of the biggest festivals in Austin, pulling in around 70,000 attendees from all around the globe. It’s also unusual because, unlike festivals like SXSW and Fantastic Fest, it’s dedicated solely to the content of Rooster Teeth’s studios, including its runaway success series RWBY and gen:LOCK.
However, as with every other large event in town – especially one that involves a big contingent of guests from other states and countries – there was a big question mark over whether the event could still go on in the wake of the coronavirus lockdown.
Rooster Teeth’s team had already announced that they were in conversations with the City of Austin, and were already planning to implement protocols adhering to the standards set by their parent company, WarnerMedia.
However, the company announced via Twitter that the decision had been made to reschedule, rather than cancel. Tickets already purchased will be honored, although refunds are available. Details at www.rtxevent.com.
