The search for Austin’s next permanent police chief may be over. City Manager Spencer Cronk told the Statesman this morning that he would recommend Interim Chief Brian Manley, a 28-year department veteran, keep the job, forgoing a national search.
City Council will need to approve the recommendation at its next regular meeting, Thursday, June 14, but Manley has thus far drawn a broad swath of community support. Expect a scene at Council on Thursday, though, and see next week’s issue for more on Cronk’s decision.
