Somewhere, 2011 TXRD champs the Rhinestone Cowgirls are tightening their wheels and checking their bearings, knowing they’re heading back to the Calvello Cup on Oct. 6. The one thing they don’t know? Who they’ll be facing for the biggest prize in banked-track Roller Derby. They’ll only be setting their target after this week’s playoff between the Holy Rollers and the Hellcats. The Cowgirls left hoofprints on the Rollers’ backs three weeks ago with a 56-41 win, but the sainted ones aren’t just praying for a miracle. They know the Hellcats are still on the prowl for their first title since 2009, but the Rollers haven’t touched gold since their back-to-back wins in 2007-’08. Last time they met, the furious felines scratched their way to victory, but vengeance is mine, sayeth the Rollers.
