As anyone that’s been watching the World Cup knows, we at the Chronicle love our brackets. Now the Derby News Network watch party contest combines our fascination with ranking systems with Austin’s own homegrown sport, Roller Derby.
If you don’t know DNN, it’s become an invaluable part of modern Roller Derby, providing coverage and news for the world’s fastest-growing sport. For this contest, leagues from around the nation have submitted videos of their own watch parties. All you have to do is head over to the DNN website, register, and vote for your favorite video promoting their free bout-cast service.
The prize package, worth $2,000, includes a whole team’s worth of derbyskinz, T-shirts, and wheels. Now far be it from us to say that you should vote for anything other than your favorite video, but if you happen to vote for Austin’s entry, created by superfans Ozzy Zion and Big Tom, then the prize package would go to the one and only Texecutioners.
The first round is open until midnight Eastern tonight: If Texas gets through this round, check back to vote again and take them (or whoever your favorite is) all the way to the finals.
Quick reminder: DNN is a totally free service that depends on volunteers and contributions to survive. If you’re feeling generous, they’re holding a major funding drive right now.
