The four teams of the Texas Rollergirls take a break this weekend from their hunt for the league title. Instead, the touring Texecutioners are cracking their knuckles, getting ready to play gracious hosts to Baltimore’s CCRG All-Stars.
Think of it as an exchange trip: After all, the Texies got to scout out Charm City last weekend when the Hotrod Honeys traveled east last weekend. They dominated their hosts’ b-team, Female Trouble, 223-26, before hitting the sidelines to watch the All-Stars (ranked #4 in the WFTDA Eastern region) take down the Kansas City Roller Warriors (#2 in the South-Central region) 220-158.
The Texies will be looking for a definitive victory. They’re the first to admit that this is a rebuild year, but after losses in successive double-headers in Colorado and Washington State, the new-look version of the #1 South-Central team is looking stronger. With much of the derby world up in Philadelphia for the East Coast Derby Extravaganza, a big win against one of their own would send a clear message to the East Coast powerhouse teams that Texas is serious about the championship.
