The Austin Toros’ Da Bull got things rolling with his controversial early celebration last week and received a two-game suspension plus 50 hours community service. This Saturday at the Bat Cave there should be far less controversy but at least triple the fun as the Ice Bats host Mascot Night featuring such events as a mascot dance contest and dizzy stick race between periods. Kids can have digital photos taken with the mascots before the game. I don’t have a list of the mascots currently (other than Fang, of course) but be assured, this will be a night to remember. Maybe Da Bull will even make an appearance. If he’s out of Da Pen. Mascot night is this Saturday, Feb. 3, 7:30pm vs. the Tulsa Oilers. Austin is on the road Thursday and Friday vs. Lubbock and Tulsa respectively.

After beating Odessa 5-2 on the road Friday night, the Bats lost a road game to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 5-1 Saturday and then managed to squeak out a single point in a 2-1 overtime loss also to the Mudbugs here in the ATX. The point brings them out of the cellar and into a tie for third place in their division with Rio Grande Valley.
