It may not be the first Roller Derby documentary, but Derby, Baby! has taken the sport’s scrappy DIY ethos to heart in self-distribution. A little surprisingly, there’s still no sign of an Austin screening, but there’s a Kickstarter campaign rolling to fix that. Bad news? You only have until 11pm to arrange it.

This isn’t about funding the film: That’s all done, and eagle-eyed local flat track Roller Derby fans will spot a pack of Texas Rollergirls and their cohorts.

Instead, film makers Robin Bond and David Wruck are using their Kickstarter campaign to pre-sell DVDs, Blu-Rays and, yes, organize community screenings. $350 or more secures a screening in your home town and, so far, according to their Facebook page, 120 towns and cities internationally have got the cash together to host a show. In Texas alone, that includes Brownwood, Dallas, Denton, El Paso, San Antonio, Stephenville … but no ATX. Odd, considering this is the city that forged the future of modern flat track.
