Ever wonder what the difference is between flat-track and banked-track Roller Derby? Take this weekend to find out. On Saturday, the TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls (they’re the ones on the banked track) move closer to the 2010 Calvello Cup Championship bout. The Hellcats – 2009 league champions – aim to push past the Holy Rollers for another shot at last year’s silver medalists, the undefeated Cherry Bombs. But don’t take your elbow pads off quite yet: On Sunday, the Texas Rollergirls (the flat-trackers) close out their 2010 home season and warm up for regionals by letting their touring Texecutioners loose on the visiting Dallas Derby Devils. This bout will also feature an exhibition from the Austin Derby Brats. TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls: Sat., Aug. 21, 7pm (doors at 6). Palmer Events Center, 900 Barton Springs Rd. $15; $13, advance; free for kids under 12. www.txrd.com. Texas Rollergirls: Sun. Aug. 22, 6:30pm (doors). Playland Skate Center, 8822 McCann. $12, advance; $15, door. www.txrollergirls.com.
