The banked track roller derby season comes in with a bang as the TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls kick off the 2010 with a double-header of events over the coming weekend.

On Jan. 17, league champs the Hellcats get the traditional honors of facing the best of the rest, the All-Scar Army. The bout takes place at the banked track skaters’ new semi-regular home, the Palmer Events Center, and the league encourages attendees to wear a yellow ribbon: If you’re feeling a little more gung-ho, the most patriotically-dressed fan gets two tickets for the Jan. 30 bout between the Rhinestone Cowgirls and the Putas Del Fuego at the Austin Convention Center. Tickets $10 from skaters, $13 in advance at vendors or online, or $15 on the door: The action starts at 7pm, promptly.

But before the first strapping on of the skates, there’s the season kickoff party at Chupacabra Cantina at 400 E. Sixth. $10 gets you entry plus free food and beer.
