Look, we don’t care what some studio executive decided to call it: Indonesian Martial arts mayhem machine The Raid rocked our skulls at SXSW. Now with the Blu-Ray release and a Mondo print both released this week, it may be leaving dents in our walls.
As Marjorie Baumgarten wrote in her review of British director Gareth Evans‘s neck-cracking, bone-jarring, slum war blitz, “For once, the phrase ‘nonstop action’ accurately describes the movie at hand.”
So with the Blu-Ray already in players, local print behemoth Mondo has recruited Evans’ fellow Brit Jock to give it the poster it deserves. And, yes, we noticed: He doesn’t call it The Raid: Redemption. Sadly, unlike Jock’s The Dark Knight Rises print, this is back to the traditional Mondo super-limited run of 275. As always, watch @MondoNews like a hawk for exact release details. All we know is that it goes on sale some time Thursday, Aug. 16.
(Hmmm has anyone else realized that, before he became a Mondo regular, Jock made his reputation drawing Judge Dredd for UK comic anthology 2000AD, and that a certain Dredd 3D is coming to Fantastic Fest, and that Mondo often does limited run prints for that festival? Just thinking, is all )
Now for some definite news. Over on his Twitter feed (@ghuwevans), in between quite justifiable rants about Manchester United, Evans has confirmed that the script for the sequel Berandal is now complete.
For more on Evans, read Marc Savlov’s SXSW interview with him here about how a Welshman ended up making the breakout Indonesian action smash.
