Two new projects launched in the Austin TV sphere recently, plus the latest from Comedy Central and ABC Family’s Austin-lensed project.
• Austin-shot ABC Family project The Lying Game has officially been cancelled, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The teen drama survived two seasons, but actress Alexandra Chando tweeted this morning that they were not renewed for any future episodes. Here’s hoping the crews can find work on other local series.
• All Night With Tim Sto premiered June 30, when it featured Jennifer Cox (“Teeth“) as guest. According to the website, next week’s guests include Emily Hagins (Grow Up, Tony Phillips). You can watch the first short episode on the show’s website, or stay tuned next Sunday night for the latest interview with Austin talent.
• The Texas Rundown also premiered at the end of June. The 30-minute live discussion of major Texas news includes local journalists such as KUT’s Ben Philpott, the Texas Observer‘s Dave Mann, the Texas Tribune’s Becca Aaronson, and Texas Monthly‘s Erica Grieder. New episodes premiere Fridays on KLRU at 7:30pm.
• Speaking of new episodes, the Austin Film Society is hosting a sneak preview of AMC’s new series, Low Winter Sun, on Monday, July 29, at 7pm at the Marchesa Hall & Theatre (6226 Middle Fiskville). The series, which weaves “a contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption” in Detroit, will officially premiere Sunday, Aug. 11, at 10pm, following the return of Breaking Bad. • Our condolences to the friends and family of Glee co-star Cory Monteith, who was found dead in his hotel room in Vancouver this weekend. At this time, authorities say foul play is not suspected.
• This one goes out to all the James Franco haters: Comedy Central announced its next roast will be of the writer/director/actor/questionable Oscar host (currently on screens in the completely absurd This Is the End), who said in a press release he has “dreamed about this Roast for as long as I can remember.” The full roast will tape in August to air on Labor Day.
