Who loves horror? Everyone! Who loves horror-comedies? Everyone! Who loves horror-comedy anthologies shot in Austin with a who’s who of Austin talent? Well, everyone, d’uh, and that’s why we’ve picked Scare Package as this week’s Now Streaming in Austin live-tweet pick of the week.
The hilarious and bloody movie makes its debut on horror streaming service Shudder this Thursday. It’s loaded with a mix of current and former Austinites, including Chris McInroy (who directed the “One Time In The Woods” segment), Emily Hagins (“Cold Open”), and Aaron B. Koontz (who directed both the “Horror Hypothesis” section and the wraparound story, “Rad Chad’s Horror Emporium”) plus UT alums Courtney and Hillary Andujar (“Girls’ Night Out Of Body”), Fantastic Fest veteran Anthony Cousins (“The Night He Came Back Again! Part IV: The Final Kill”), FF regular Noah Segan (making his directorial debut with “M.I.S.T.E.R.”), and Grace and Frankie star Baron Vaughn (another first timer with “So Much To Do.”) Plus, if you want to see Chronicle cover star Dustin Rhodes tear up the abandoned Brackenridge Hospital as a classic movie slasher, you don’t want to miss this.
So, at 8pm Central on Thursday, June 18, we’ll be settling down with a vat of popcorn, a bucket of soda, maybe even some gummies, and reveling in one of the most disgustingly fun films out of Austin’s already vibrant horror scene. Just tune in via Shudder, and follow Chronicle screens editor Richard Whittaker (@YorkshireTX), and use the hashtags #NowStreamingInAustin and #ScarePackage.
