Before a campaign can get out the vote, it has to register the voters, and to get them registered takes registrars. So the Travis County Democratic Party spent last night continuing its efforts to get as many names as possible onto the voter rolls. At their first ever East Austin Block Party, held amidst blasting fans at the TCDP Coordinated Campaign headquarters, Travis County Tax Assessor Nelda Wells Spears swore in 18 new volunteer deputy voter registrars.

So to stage two: Voter registration. The Austin chapter of Vote for Change was formed on May 10 this year, but hopes to register its 1,000th new eligible voter at their stand at tonight’s Blues on the Green at Zilker Park, starting at 6pm. If the opportunity to be part of participatory democracy isn’t enough for you, Carolyn Wonderland will be performing.
