UPDATE of this story here.
So after yesterday’s announcement of the Intel shell demo-date, the Statesman is reporting there’s a flurry of activity by Will Wynn and others to save the unfinished monolith and sell it to developers. Granted, it doesn’t make much sense to destroy an unfinished building that could morph into any number of things, but it raises the question – why the fuck didn’t anyone think of this years ago, instead of allowing this infrastructural rupture to molest Downtown Austin’s psyche for years on end? (Oh wait – we did.)
Anywho, there’s also the none-too-little matter of convincing the federal government to ditch their plans for a courthouse on the land. Somehow, I don’t think Uncle Sam will lose too many winks imploding what could’ve been Perry Lorenz’s Aruba vacay-fund. But that’s just me.
Good riddance anyway. Detonating the shell will be the psychic high-colonic the city’s needed for years.
