Jim Baker, the former Austin firefighter accused of setting up a spy camera inside a locker room so that he could record female colleagues while they showered, won’t make an appearance in court until next year.

The former lieutenant was indicted for invasive visual recording last week, and was originally due in court on Tuesday. That’s been rescheduled for Jan. 17, according to Baker’s attorney Larry Sauer.

Baker admitted to APD that the camera found inside the Central Fire Station’s locker room belonged to him and was set up without consent of the victim, and there are indications that the shower episode may not have been an isolated incident – Baker has also been accused of improperly touching female patients during his time at AFD. Sauer has called efforts by Austin Firefighters Association President Bob Nicks to call attention to previous accusations of misconduct made against Baker a “witch hunt,” something nearly 50 union members – many of them women – gathered to rebut on Dec. 11.
