Recently, Texecutioner and Chronicle cover star Bloody Mary said she wished more people appreciated the importance of Austin’s Texas Rollergirls to modern flat track derby. Looks like she got her wish. Yesterday (after a great performance in the council chamber by Vanessa Lively), Mayor Lee Leffingwell proclaimed Dec. 18, 2009 as Texas Rollergirl Day.

Leffingwell also made a special promise: He’ll be there to blow the whistle on the first jam of the inaugural bout of the 2010 home season. See you at Playland Skate Center on Feb. 28, Mr. Mayor.
