Lousy weather conditions and school closures meant delays in voting in the House District 50 special run off election, and so District Court Judge Scott Jenkins has issued an order allowing the ballot boxes to stay open an extra hour until 8pm.

In a statement, Travis County Clerk Dana DeBeauvoir said, “Due to the weather, some citizens may not have had a chance to vote this morning. Extending voting for an hour will also give voters who arrive at a closed polling location, at one of the school campuses, close to 7pm the opportunity to travel to an another location.”

The election is the final stage in the special election between Democrat Celia Israel and Republican Mike VanDeWalle to complete the unexpired term of former state rep Mark Strama who stepped down last year to run Google Fiber‘s Austin division.

HD50 voters can use any voting location. You can find the full list of open sites here.
