Early voting results in for both ACC and AISD elections in Travis and Williamson Counties.

ACC Trustee Place 5
Vic Villarreal 50.95% (2,403)

David Reiter 49.05% (2,313)

AISD At-Large Position 9
Tamala Barksdale 49.45% (2,222)

Julie Cowan 50.55% (2,271)

Time for some early analysis:

The turn-out is lousy. However, it was slightly higher in the harder-fought AISD election, with a 1.2% turnout in the Cowan/Barksdale race versus 0.8% in ACC.

However, since ACC covers areas outside of the area covered by AISD, including areas of Williamson County, that’s still numerically a higher turn-out for ACC.

So far, Villarreal has taken Travis County and Reiter has a tiny lead in Williamson. However, since turnout in Travis is about nine times that of Wilco, Villarreal’s tiny lead south of the county line means a slim 90-vote margin.

As for AISD, this is a nail-biter. Cowan leads by 49 votes on early voting: Anyone prepared to say that this race is settled is a bold gambler.

Highly unusually, and in a step that threw us for a loop on our early calculations, the Travis County Elections Division included the ACC precincts in Wilco in its early voting results. Normally results for elections across county lines aren’t reported cumulatively until finalized. Mea culpa on earlier confusion.
