Jason Enright tells the story of how Jupiter became Bob Dylan’s favorite record store:
“Now Ryan is known as one of the biggest Bob aficionados around. When Dylan played at the Erwin Center in September of 1999, we placed an ad in the Chronicle — a collage of unpublished photos of Bob through the years — welcoming him to Austin. We go to the show, and the only thing he says the whole show is how much he likes Jupiter Records.
“The next week we got a tremendous response from people who had been at the show. Phone calls, people coming into the store asking how we knew him — it was amazing. We followed that with a Dylan tribute night at the store that drew 400 people.
“We recorded it, and the next time he came to town, we gave him a copy. He told us how much he appreciated what we were doing. To my knowledge, we’re the only record store Bob has plugged onstage.”
