What would Huey do?

Do you feel the icy grip of winter’s hands around your neck? You’re not alone! This weekend, beyond the usual recommended events, there are even more ways to fend of the Reaper.

For instance, there’s quite a few local CD releases, like jazz throwback Datri Bean (Friday, Swan Dive), the Doors-channeling Hi-Tones (Friday, Club de Ville), and glam fans Candi & the Strangers (Saturday, ND @ 501 Studios). Southern rockers Grady release a new DVD Saturday at the Scoot Inn.

Also Friday, the annual Fashion Freakout at Mohawk, hosted by local cut-up Matt Bearden, and featuring music by a Gary Glitter cover band. See “Off the Record” for more on that, as well as local fashion icon Christeene’s big trip to Paris.

Also Saturday, Austin’s heavily bearded Huey Lewis cover band, the New Drugs, thrusts into Ruta Maya. Boosy Cray, Ichi Ni San Shi, and Serious Tracers open. If you’ve never seen them live, go out, buy some socks, and put them on – but not with your best shoes, because the socks are going be blown right through them.
