Vote or Die

Nominations for the Austin Music Memorial, which aims to honor deceased musical pioneers, are being accepted until Friday. The inaugural inductees will be unveiled in March along with the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Center for the Performing Arts. Complete eligibility requirements and nomination instructions are available at www.ci.austin.tx.us/music/memorial.htm.

Friday is also the deadline to cast a ballot in the Sound and the Jury competition. The Top 5 bands do battle at Antone’s, Sept. 12, with one winning an opening slot on the Austin City Limits Music Festival‘s Dell Stage. Runners-up still receive free tickets to the event and a $1,000 travel stipend. Not bad for a day’s work. In other ACL news, Amy Winehouse has dropped from the bill citing “exhaustion.” The UK diva has been replaced by White Stripes‘ tourmates Cold War Kids.
