We’ve known for a while that Housecore Horror Film Festival has been hiding something special in its bag of tricks. Now they’re unleashing it. Phil Anslemo conjures up his old band Superjoint Ritual for the first time in a decade.

At last year’s inaugural HHFF, the festival co-founder played in two of his famed musical incarnations, Down and Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals. This time around, it’s his defunct harcore/black metal fusion project. The singer’s keeping tight-lipped about the details, including exactly who will be in the lineup.

“If people want to hear Superjoint jam a badass set, then we’re all for giving the people what they want!” he announced. “You wanna hear it? Then bring your asses to Austin, Texas, this October 23-26!”

Almost as surprising arrives word of the appearance for a second year of Gwar, the splatter metal masters who rocked a stunning show in 2013, then suffered the tragic death of frontbeast Dave Brockie, aka Oderus Urungus. The band’s confirmed the continued touring of its theatrical madness in his honor.

“We’re completely stoked,” exclaimed Housecore creative director Tammy Moore said.

The Richmond, Va., legcy could take lessons from another confirmed band that came back from a terrible loss: Canadian technical metalers Voivod, which regrouped from the seemingly insurmountable loss of guitarist and chief songwriter Piggy to release 2013’s Target Earth.

Speaking (or rather bellowing) of Gwar, Todd Evans, who performed under the armor as Beefcake the Mighty in the mid-2000s, brings his speed metal outfit Mobile Death Camp. Anselmo’s commitment to Texas metal and New Orleans will be on display in War Master and Corrections House, respectively, the latter starring Mike IX Williams (also appearing in his day job, Eyehategod), Scott Kelly of Neurosis, Sanford Parker from Minsk, and Yakuza’s Bruce Lamont.

The line-up additions join acts including Danzig/Samhain and a special appearance by Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe. The film side of the fest has already confirmed cast and crew reunions for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2. Expect more announcements soon.
