The city of Austin will officially recognize Aug. 24 as Meadow Goodman Mental Health Awareness Day to honor the memory of the 15-year-old local musician, who passed away last year. The certification coincides with the benefit show MeadowFest, going down at Far Out Lounge the same day.

Meadow Goodman, daughter of local bassist and KTonic Kombucha founder Greg Goodman, was a queer drummer and student at Anderson High School who lost her battle with mental illness in August 2023. One year later, the KUTX-presented minifestival MeadowFest honors her memory with performances by Grupo Fantasma, Superfónicos, Como Las Movies with Sabrina Ellis, Nemegata, the Point, Somebody Someone, and School of Rock. District 2 Council Member Vanessa Fuentes will dedicate the date in Meadow’s honor at the event, which benefits Out Youth Austin and the SIMS Foundation.

“On behalf of the City of Austin, it will be my privilege to recognize Aug. 24, 2024, as Meadow Goodman Mental Health Awareness Day,” Fuentes said in a statement. “By combining art, music, and mental health advocacy, MeadowFest will cultivate a fun and unique experience true to the spirit of Austin. I’m thrilled to join the community in support of our local artists and mental health organizations.”
