Blues on the Green has announced the lineup for this year’s shortened version of the free summer music series, headed to Zilker Park on June 11 and 12.
Tuesday’s show features the stylings of indescribable world music collective Golden Dawn Arkestra, R&B singer Grace Sorensen, and the newly reunited Nané, playing again with singer Quentin Arispe following the 2022 death of founding vocalist Daniel Sahad. Wednesday follows with husband-wife hip-hop duo Riders Against the Storm, Grupo Fantasma/Nemegata supergroup Caramelo Haze, and prodigious genre-benders the Point.
Historically, Blues on the Green has taken place all summer, drawing tens of thousands of Austinites to Zilker Park to lounge on picnic blankets and enjoy local live music, free of cost. But in January, presenters Austin City Limits Radio canceled the 2024 edition of the event, describing increasing challenges in putting on a festival “without admission fees and bar sales.”
ACL Radio announced that Blues on the Green was back on a month later, when City Council initiated city co-sponsorship of the concert series and other free live music events through Resolution 23. H-E-B also stepped in to prop up the event, the organizers said at the time.
Presented by H-E-B, this year’s Blues on the Green counts the city of Austin, United Heritage Credit Union Credit Union, Ford, Thomas J. Henry Law, Get There ATX, and Circuit of the Americas as its sponsors.
