The Old Alligator Grill

3003 S. Lamar, 444-6117
We were determined to find some place serving Cajun/Creole food with a generous helping of zydeco dancing on the side, and we finally had to settle for the Alligator Grill. Recent expansions have opened up the busy South Austin restaurant as a nightly live music venue with an often busy dance floor. The menu represents southwest Louisiana: gumbos, étouffées, po’boys, plenty of spice, and a full bar. Two Hoots and a Holler will be onstage for Valentine’s Day, and while it’s not exactly the sweaty Louisiana bayou country zydeco of our imagination, there should be plenty of opportunity to shake it up on the dance floor. – V.B.W.
