Austins artisan food community is coming together in support of one of their own at a benefit called Pies and Pigs. While the event is for a very good cause, it could very well be the tastiest food party of the year in the bargain.
Local artist Colleen Sommers, the owner of Pie Fixes Everything, has been diagnosed with breast cancer and her friends are raising money to help defray the cost of her treatments because shes uninsured. It just so happens that Colleen knows some of the most talented artisan
food purveyors in town and the party theyre putting together will be one of the most delicious events this town has ever seen at any price, much less a $25 donation.
There will be a Dueling Pig Roast between pork specialists Raymond Tatum of Three Little Pigs and Ben Runkle of
Salt & Time with side dishes prepared by HOPE Market farmers and food vendors. Christian Bowers of Bola Pizza will be on hand slinging his distinctive pizza pies. Drinks will be provided by Hops & Grain Brewery, Thirsty Planet Brewing, Saint Arnold Brewing, and East End Wines. Many of Austins top bakers and pastry chefs are donating pies for an auction, as well as for eating, and guests can pair them with flavors of custom gelato and sorbetto from Teos or scoops of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla. All of this good eating and auction bidding will be complemented by music from the Greyhounds and the Whiskey Shivers on the shady grounds at Springdale Farm. Whats not to love? Bring your appetite, a blanket or a lawn chair, and do not miss this party!
