North Lamar’s beloved karaoke and fried chicken spot College Roadhouse shall henceforth be known as Seoulju. The Korean kitchen and bar announced this week via social media that College Roadhouse’s last day was August 25, and that the business (9515 N. Lamar #230) would be closed for renovations. As of August 30, 5:30pm, they’re back.
Specializing in late night comfort food and KFC (that’s Korean fried chicken), Seoulju’s menu kept some of the College Roadhouse favorites but otherwise fashioned a She’s All That-level makeover complete with a whole new aesthetic. Dishes not to miss: budae jjigae, bulgogi kimchi fries, octopus and pork belly, and several versions of their tasty fried chicken.
The family- and partner-owned business opened in 2015, and still remains in the Lee family. The restaurant’s new name – Seoulju – is inspired by one of the world’s most popular alcoholic beverages, the Korean spirit soju (the ABV lands somewhere between wine and vodka), and the menu will offer Jinro Plum, a flavored option.
And of course, as anyone following formerly-known-as knows, this place is one of Austin’s greatest karaoke treasures and Seoulju is not only carrying on that tradition, but fully embracing their K-Pop fandom. The grand opening party is set for Friday, September 13, 9pm (doors at 5:30) and promises a dancing talent show and prize giveaways including free KFC for a year.
As they frequently write to fans on Instagram, “Come hang out with us and we’ll SOJU a good time.”
