Get the holiday weekend off to a tasty start by enjoying Burgers and Brats on the Barbie at Stone House Vineyard (24350 Haynie Flat Rd. in Spicewood, 512/264-3630). A mere $12 gets you food and a glass of Sangiovese Rosé. Saturday, Sept. 1, noon-4pm.

Home Slice Pizza (1415 S. Congress, 444-PIES) proprietors Terri Hannifin and Jen and Joseph Strickland are all about authenticity, so they’re closing up shop for a few days to take their entire staff on an eating trip to what they consider pizza’s gustatory motherland: New York City. The trip is designed to “educate, inform, and inspire” Home Slice staffers, who will visit “pizzerias, corner slice joints, and sit-down Italian restaurants throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.” Surely Home Slice customers will ultimately reap the benefits of this culinary excursion. The pizzeria will be closed Sept. 3-6.
