It’s time to start thinking seriously about putting on an extra layer of fat for the long, cold winter ahead. Why not do it while also contributing to a good cause?
In a recent feature story about hospitality in our country’s divisive times, owner Joel Fried (along with wife Joanna Fried) said, “At the Eldorado Cafe, all are welcome. Our only rule is ‘be nice or leave.’”
The restaurant – selected as the top First Plates 2018 winner – has a new menu special that falls neatly in line with their ethos: The No Hater Tater is the ultimate in cold-weather comfort food. Take a generous mound of garlicky mashed potatoes, smother them in Eldorado queso, and top them with some sliced green onions, and you’ve got a lethal (in all the best ways) combo of carbs and fat that will instantaneously soothe those holiday-shopping-frayed nerves.
The Frieds have launched a holiday fundraiser to benefit an organization that works with victims of child abuse. A portion of the sales from the No Hater Tater will benefit the unnamed organization, and Eldorado has launched a GoFundMe campaign with a $10,000 goal. They are also working with other local restaurants to participate in the fundraiser.
