Amanda Eyre Ward is aces with dysfunctional families. With her latest novel, Lovers and Liars (out May 14), the Austin author returns to some of the same winning elements of her 2020 bestseller The Jetsetters, a Reese’s Book Club pick – think: estranged siblings, epic baggage, swooning locales. Here, it’s the Peacock sisters descending on a Northern England castle for youngest Sylvie’s impulsive wedding. Everybody loses their mind a little, in ways that are comic but recognizable, in a large-hearted story about finding the people who really get you and holding on for dear life. – Kimberley Jones

Do you dream of cruising on the Circuit of the Americas? This Tuesday, you can – on two wheels. No electric vehicles allowed – only pedal power. Take a breather and ascend the 251-foot-tall Tower Observation Deck to watch the sun set. L.A.-based pianist Paul Cornish has built up quite the CV since coming up through Houston’s prestigious High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. After studying at the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz at UCLA, it’s no wonder sessions and sideperson work with the likes of Joshua Redman, Louis Cole, Terrace Martin, Mark Guiliana, Snoh Aalegra, Thumpasaurus, and HAIM followed. He was also commissioned by the Apollo Chamber Players to write a piece for the Houston Library System’s centennial. His No Pressure tour with bassist Jermaine Paul and drummer Jonathan Pinson marks his first jaunt as a leader. – Michael Toland
