  • Pre-College Showcase in Latin American Studies

    The Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies at The University of Texas at Austin will host a free pre-college showcase for rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Registration required. Parking and food included. More details online.

    Annie Jump and the Library of Heaven

    The Vortex production of acclaimed playwright Reina Hardy's first National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere moves to the Carver stage for a final held-over weekend. "This remarkable play engages young adults and audiences of all ages, bringing science and imagination into the theatre." Directed by Marcus McQuirter and Rudy Ramirez, and starring Jeremy Rashad Brown, Oktavea LaToi, Dane Parker, Christina Blake, and Eva McQuade.

    SIMS Electric Art Party & Online Auction

    Over 30 local musicians have donated their art to the SIMS Foundation for an auction to raise funds to support mental health and substance use recovery services for the music industry. Start bidding online now, and join the wrap party to view and bid on the art, meet some of the artists, listen to music from Akina Adderley and Frederico7, and watch live painting by Gabriel Portillo. Treats include artisan popsicles from Odd Pop and drink specials from Deep Eddy Vodka, Lone Star, and Nine Banded Whiskey.

    Austin Hounds Calendar Contest

    To help reach the fundraising goal of $10,000 for nonprofit Hound Rescue, Dog Days Photography is holding a calendar contest with a $10 entry fee and vote cost of $1 each. Thirteen lucky puppers will appear in the calendar, and each week will feature mini contests with winning dogs receiving prizes from sponsor businesses. Contest opens at 7am Mon., July 12; get more deets and enter online.

    Austin Pets Alive! puts the "fun" in "fundraiser" this month: For $40, you can purr-chase a passport to use participating locations throughout July, and at each stop, pick up a coffee, beer, glass of wine, or even a refreshing agua fresca. The nonprofit animal shelter is partnering with Austin favorites like Irene’s, Hank’s, Cosmic Coffee, Yard Bar, and more, and proceeds go to pets in need.
