Luck Reunion's Long Live Music presents The Songs I Left Behind: A Tribute to Billy Joe Shaver w/ Charlie Sexton & Friends

Billy Joe Shaver’s songs fueled the early outlaw movement, shocking country music in the Seventies with a hardscrabble Texas authenticity on Waylon Jennings’ ground-zero release Honky Tonk Heroes. Only proper, then, that the Waco songwriter, who passed away last month, gets a proper Lone Star send-off from Willie Nelson’s Luck Presents crew. Charlie Sexton plays bandleader to Shaver’s indomitable songbook and influence among the participants: Ray Benson, Dale Watson, Shakey Graves, and Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis. Keep an eye on the Luck roster of special guests, too. “I’m gonna live forever,” the born-again balladeer famously sang with his characteristic mix of no-nonsense bravado and eternal humility, though just as important to heed is Shaver’s frequent call from the stage: “God loves ya when you dance!”

      Austin Studio Tour: Pandemic Edition

We're calling it the pandemic edition, but Big Medium and associates just call it the Austin Studio Tour. It's that progressive arts organization's response to these damned 'ronas, is what it is. They're taking the annual West Austin and East Austin Studio Tours and combining them, then presenting them mostly via the internets – wherein the expanded website includes artist profiles, images of artworks, virtual studio visits, demonstrations, artist talks, and a handy map of outdoor installations and public art. Hundreds of artists in this town, in full digital force. Note: The Tour begins with a launch party on Fri., Nov. 13; it's a preview of the website (and an opportunity to acquire artwork before it opens generally on Nov. 14).
      Through Nov. 22. Free.

The Eleanor: Miracle on Fifth Street

Yes, the beloved Christmas-themed pop-up bar returns to The Eleanor for another year of spirited celebration. Joann Spiegel, the mastermind behind the brand’s cocktail repertoire, has created a roster of delightful, holiday-inspired libations, featuring cocktails that play on classic holiday flavors. New this year: Jolly Koala (gin, vermouth, and pine-cardamom-sage cordial), On Dasher (bourbon, mezcal, sweet vermouth, spiced hibiscus, bitters, and lemon), and a Fruitcake Flip (brandy, Jamaican overproof rum, Amaretto, fruitcake, cherry bitters, and a whole egg). (Our personal fave, the Bad Santa, is likewise among the heady lineup.) Also, the full cocktail menu will be available at the main downstairs and mezzanine bars. Note: This year, all Miracle cocktails can be ordered to-go. Note: This year, all Miracle cocktails can be ordered to-go – and a portion of all to-go sales will benefit the Austin Children’s Shelter and Austin Pets Alive. God bless us, everyone!
