    The Social Distancing Festival

This is an online community, as playwright and unstoppable force of creative nature Nick Green informs us, and it's been activated to "celebrate and showcase the work of the many artists around the world who have been affected by the need for social distancing that has come about due to the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19)." It's not Austin-based, this virtual and ongoing festival of all kinds of performance arts, but damned if there aren't a few talented Austinites among the eclectic mix.

    Virtual Hideout: The Free Fringe

What's this? There could be shows with wild genres or themes, actors trying on new characters, or performers who've never played together before who just wanna jump in and see what happens. But there could also be improvisers tied up in rope, improvising dogs, or 1000 other things: The Hideout's Free Fringe has been unfettered IRL for years, and it's gonna take more than Zoomification to reel this weekly lunacy in from the edges.

Virtual Vortex: Last: An Extinction Comedy

Here's a rebroadcast of the Vortex's original apocalyptic spectacle, conceived and directed by Rudy Ramirez, devised by the ensemble. It's an end-times tale about a group of sketch comedians wandering the desolated earth in search of an audience and basic living supplies – not all that unlike the present, eh? And did the Chronicle review this when it was first staged? Yes – yes, we did.
