Wizard World, the traveling celebration of all things geek, wondrous, collectible and nerdy, arrives in Austin today. But aside from all the Hollywood names, wrestling legends, and heavy-hitting comics icons, there’s some Austinites heading up the programming. Here’s a quick guide for some local names that you may not want to miss.
Thursday
6pm: Paranormal City Travel Channel host and Blastr editor-at-large Aaron Sagers explores the urban myths and supernatural location of the 512 (Room 10AB).
Friday
2pm: Challenges of a YouTube Startup Hey, it’s the Chronicle coverstars of Weird Girls, talking about finding an audience for your web content (Room 8).
5pm: How Not to Have Your Professional Fanboy Heart Broken Brad Graeber of local animation studio Powerhouse Animation (Clerks: The Animated Series, DC Universe Online), Adam Creighton from Panic Button (Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes), and Patrick Curry of Unity Austin (the Marvel gaming universe) lead this chat about the pleasures and pitfalls of dealing with licensed characters (Room 8).
Saturday
Diversity in Geek Culture Shane Brown, founder of Gay Austin Geeks, heads up a panel on fandom and the LGBT community (Room 10AB).
And don’t forget, there will be dozens of local creators selling the work on artist alley.
