• Congratulations to this year’s winners of the Pearl Amster Youth Concerto Competition: pianist Emily Fung, age 15; violinist Alexander Yau, age 16; and pianist Esther Ji, age 16. This trio joins more than 60 young Central Texas musicians who have been recognized in this annual juried competition’s 24-year history, and the honor includes performing as soloists with the Austin Civic Orchestra. At this weekend’s concert, Fung will perform the first movement of Moszkowski’s Piano Concerto in E major, Ji will perform the first movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, and Yau will perform the third movement of Saint-Saens’ Violin Concerto No. 3 in B minor. • The Texas Biennial is still dazzling art lovers all over town, and if you’re one of them and are wondering how to get your hands on some of the works being displayed, you might want to catch Inside the Texas Biennial, a guide to buying proven local talent while you still can by Gallery Lombardi curator and Chronicle contributor Rachel Koper. • The Biscuit Brothers keep racking up honors. Last year saw an Emmy for the local PBS children’s series; this week, a resolution from the Texas Legislature, courtesy of Rep. Mark Strama. The recognition comes as Dusty and Buford – aka local theatre mainstays Jerome Schoolar and Allen Robertson – plus sister Buttermilk (Jill Leberknight), the Biscuit Band (Gravy), and perpetually congested puppet sidekick Tiny Scarecrow (Damon Brown) make their return to Scottish Rite Children’s Theatre to launch their new CD, Old MacDonald’s EIEI Radio, featuring songs from the second season of the Biscuit Brothers TV show.
