Are you LGBTQ and a fan of Magic? Have you never picked up a card but your gay spirit yearns to build a deck? Do you reject the temptations of Yu-Gi-Oh! and its many big-haired idols? Then you may find yourself among friends at this weekly meetup of queer Magic: The Gathering players. Welcome are the dedicated, the lapsed, and the newbies these Thursday nights – even those sans cards can participate. Masks, however, are required, but they’ve got spares if you forget yours at home. – James Scott

I’ve analyzed the projections and looked at all the research: My conclusion is rock solid. Yes, I’ve concluded that this Thursday night on Fourth Street will be a riot … for Riot Fair, that is. Tear down the house with host Riot Girl, cast members Titty Androgynous & Venus Rising, and DJ Ruby Knight. Their drag spectacular will shock white streaks in your hair, spin your chair, and make you shout – as will the nice early start time of 8:30pm. Communication is key. How else can we know what folks need without talking to them? These conversations are all the more important when between minority populations such as LGBTQ and Two-Spirit adults. From Family Eldercare’s program Rainbow Connections, whose work supports Austin’s queer elders, this event will connect older Two-Spirit and LGBTQ folks to improve their future. – James Scott

Who among us hasn’t taken a cross-country car journey that taught us a little about life, a little about love, and a lot about ourselves? Okay, most of us haven’t, but damn if movies don’t overrepresent this experience. This month, the cinematic-minded queer “professors” of Queer Film Theory 101 feature films about adventures on the gay ol’ gravel way and present on how these influenced their LGBTQ lives. And before you ask, no, not everyone can talk about sleepover staple Crossroads, but I’m sure someone will speak on this important work. –James Scott
