LA PE�A and ALLGO INFORME SIDA present a variety of activities in
celebration of Dia de los Muertos, 1996. Fri, Oct 25 features an art
exhibition and reception, “Cada vida, una historia (Each life has a
story),” from 6-9pm at Las Manitas Avenue Cafe, 211 Congress. The restaurant
will be transformed into a multi-media, interactive performance feast by artist
Ren� Anguiano. An Altar Building Workshop led by Ms. Lindsey and Dennis
Medina will be held Sun, Oct 27, 2-5pm at Victory Grill, 1104 E. 11th. Altar
displays will be on view at Our Lady of Guadalupe Youth and Family Center, 905
Lydia St., on Fri, Nov 1. Then on Sat, Nov 2, a Dia de los Muertos celebration
will be held, beginning with a mass at Cristo Rey, 2110 E. Second at 6pm. A
procession will follow the mass at 7pm, travelling from Cristo Rey to Our Lady
of Guadalupe Youth Center. At 8pm, a performance will be held by Roy Lozano’s
Ballet Folklorico, and an open viewing of altars will also be featured.

MEXIC-ARTE MUSEUM will present an exhibition of Dia de los Muertos/Day
of the Dead altars and related artwork, at 419 Congress Ave. Artists featured
will include David Zamora Casas, Connie Arismendi, Steve Brudniak, and others.
Oct 28-Nov 23. The exhibition will be on view until 10pm on Thu, Oct 31, for
the Halloween crowd. An Altar-Making Workshop will be conducted by San Antonio
artist Mary Jesse Garza on Sat, Oct 26, 11am-5pm. Austin artists Pilar
Castrejon and Ambray Gonzalez will also teach papier mach� and papel
picado. $5 per person. Call for reservations. On Nov 2, 4-10pm, a Dia de los
Muertos celebration will be held, featuring live entertainment. Participants
are encouraged to dress up in skeleton, angel, or devil costumes. Admission is

ACADEMIA AZTLAN will present the annual Day of the Dead (Dia de los
Muertos) production at the Santa Cruz Center for Culture, 1805 E. Seventh
St. The evening will join audience and performer into a “fiendish, ghoulish
program that is deep-rooted in tradition.” Academia’s performing companies —
the Aztlan Folk Dance Company, Los Tamboreros Nuevos de Tonatiuh, and Teatro
Humanidad Cansada — will deliver the evening’s traditional form, along with
special guest, the Chicano Intelligence Agency (C.I.A.). Audience members are
encouraged to write their own calaveras (wishful petitions) and bring

EL INTERIOR will present an open house on Fri & Sat, Nov 1 & 2,
10am-6pm. The Day of the Dead celebration will feature a traditional Zapotec
Indian altar, a continuous showing of the film Day of the Dead by
Charles and Ray Eames, and refreshments of Mexican cinnamon coffee and cookies.
